The former England captain, Michael Vaughan, has said that Joe Root is an incredible talent and he will definitely do well on the India tour.
Joe Root has been selected in the test squad of England for the test series against India. He is a 21 years old opening batsman from Yorkshire. After the retirement of Andrew Strauss, an opener had to be included in the England test team. The selectors were expected to select an experienced first class opener for the tour of India, but, that didn’t happen. The selectors decided to go with young Root who according to Vaughan is one of the finest young players in the country.
A few days before the announcement of the England test squad for the India tour, Vaughan had said that the selectors should include Root in the squad on Strauss’ place as he had got a very good temperament.
When asked whether he is happy with Root’s selection in the squad, Vaughan replied. “Yes, I am very happy for the youngster. He performed in the domestic circuit and he got selected. Now, he will have to prove himself at the international level. It’s not easy to fill in the shoes of a player like Strauss. He was one of the finest opening batsmen from England. But, Root has got a lot of potential and I am sure he will deliver against India.”
When asked about Nick Compton who also managed to find a place in the test squad, Vaughan said, “Nick has been around for quite some time now and he has always been a heavy run getter in domestic cricket. But, In India, he will get slow, turning tracks which he would not have seen much in his career. He will be tested on that tour by the classy spinners of India.”
